  1. Distress caused by compulsive-like behavior was the dependent variable. The presence of each of the five types of tics (face and head; neck, shoulder, or trunk; arms, hands, legs, or feet; noises and sounds; repeated words or phrases), ASD traits, ADHD traits, internalizing behavior traits, externalizing behavior traits, and the participants’ age and gender were independent variables.
